Second Quarter Progress Toward 2016 Goals

Writing and Publication

  • As in the first, the writing time that I did manage to complete was spent revising the three sales books. However, my writing time diminished substantially as we moved into May and June.
  • In the quarter, I only met my daily Writing Goal by writing for at least 20 minutes in 27 days out of 91 days in the quarter, writing and revising for a total of 73.5 hours in that period.
  • Two new haibun rough drafts were completed in this quarter but I did not work on the rough drafts completed in the first quarter. The little writing that I did was primarily focused on the sales books.
  • The sales books continued to get better during this period.

Photography

  • In April, I took photos of the changing ice formations on the lake, and some shots at the nearby slough, including some shots of the resident muskrat. I also took a few photos at my Motherís 94th birthday party. During a trip to Utah in early May, I engaged in eight days of photo shoots and managed to get some of the editing work done on about two thirds of the images. In June, during a trip to watch a Gospel Revival play at the theatre in Rosebud Alberta, I took some shots in the Linden, Alberta area. July brought in the change of colour in the canola fields and I travelled around the nearby farms getting shots of the fields of yellow.
  • I havenít been as motivated to work on my photography and few of these images have been processed for inclusion on my website.

Relationships

  • My motherís medical problems continued during this quarter requiring frequent visits. I usually travelled into the city about three times a week to visit her, get her medications and groceries, pick up and deliver her laundry.
  • As usual, I spent considerable time with Quynn during this quarter.

Travel

  • I travelled to Utah to meet with Kathy, Ray and Nancy in early May. The journey down took me through Cheyenne Wyoming and past Longmire Country. The journey back took us over the Monida pass during a bit of a storm and that was an adventure with periods of white-out along the way.

Extra Projects

  • Work on my writing and images was displaced in this quarter by work on the garden and yard. This included digging up a section of the back yard, planting two apple trees, digging up and seeding a new grass area, and building two large garden boxes.

Physical Well-Being
I think I achieved very good progress toward my well-being goals. Because of my daily focus on 9 specific goals, I felt much more fit than I had started the year. I did not see any further weight loss in this quarter but sustained what I had achieved in the first. I fell short on my meditation goals but did very well on the rest of them.

Annual Goals

  • I lost 16 pounds during the first quarter.
  • I walked and cross-country skied 786.34 km in the quarter, which is 49% of my annual goal of 1600 km during the year.

Conclusion

My daily focus on specific goals has kept me on target and I am making great progress toward my annual goals for 2016. My lifestyle has definitely changed for the better and I think I have instituted many new habits.
