FIRST MONTH PROGRESS TOWARD 2016 Goals

Writing and Publication

  • The month was occupied with doing revisions of the three sales books to correct for many problems I discovered in my pronoun use. As these revisions progressed, I decided to make sure that each of the chapters on the ten steps in the sales model had an early page on the goals for each step, which meant moving the goals sections forward in many of the chapters and adding a goals segment for some steps that previously did not have them. Unfortunately, moving sections about caused me to have some duplicate paragraphs, which were only discovered once I had uploaded the books to CreateSpace and then began work in MS Word for the Kindle versions. This meant my books were generally not available for sale for much of the month of January.
  • Upon encouragement from friends, I have decided to modify one of my 2016 goals and definitely commit to working on the fictional novel titled “19 VIP Transition House” during this calendar year.
  • Writing at last 20 minutes per day >>>>>>>>>>Achieved 26 out of 31 days
  • Writing at last 20 minutes per day >>>>>>>>>>133.06 min Average Writing per day
  • I wrote three rough drafts for haibun in the month.
  • In general, this was a productive writing month

Photography

  • This first month has been so focused on my the revisions of my books that I have not taken one photo shot.

Relationships

  • I did manage to help my mother with various visits to doctors and medical labs, arranged for increased home care services, and had her out to our place for a couple of visits.

Travel

  • There was no actual travel during January but we did begin to brainstorm travel options for the year. No definite plans have been made beyond a two week commitment that will take us to the David Thompson RV Resort for a music weekend in August and then to Kananaskis for Dianne’s annual family gathering..

Physical Well-Being
January was a critical month for establishing a new lifestyle that would lead to better physical well-being. I set daily goals and worked deliberately on meeting them as frequently as I could in order to create new habits around activity and eating. I was aiming to achieve each of these goals over 6 out of 7 days. This amounted to doing these things 86% of the month. I kept track of how well I was doing using an Excel spreadsheet.

Goal                                                                Result
Better portion control for breakfast ................ Good portion control 31 of 31 breakfasts
Better portion control for lunch ...................... Good portion control 28 of 31 lunches
Better portion control for dinner .................... Good portion control only 23 of 31 dinners
No eating after dinner ................................... No eating after dinner 27 of 31 days
10,000 Steps per day ................................... Goal achieved 18 out of 31 days
10,000 Average Daily Steps........................... Achieved 9269 average daily steps
50+ minutes of Activity every day ................. Activity 23 of 31 days
Average of 50 minutes Activity per day ......... Averaged 54.16 minutes per day
Distance Covered per day >5.0 km  ............ Achieved goal 24 out of 31 days
Distance Covered per day >5.0 km ............. Averaged 7.12 km per day
Meditate at least 20 min per day .................. Achieved 20 out of 31 days
Average Time Meditating per day ................. 17.06 minutes

I bought a FitBit Charge HR to track my physical activity and wore it for 26 of the days of the month. Prior to that, I used a FitBit Zip for five days.

Annual Goals

  • I lost 4 pounds during the month of January.
  • I walked and cross country skied 220 km in January which is 13.75% of my annual goal of 1600 km during the year.

Conclusion
In my judgment, I was relatively successful during the month of January making progress toward my 2016 goals. I need to be better at my portion control during my dinner meals, and want to reach closer to 100% of my goal of not eating after dinner. I will likely finish with the sales books by mid February and will then be able to restart on the problem solving book at that time. I will try to re-work my initial draft of haibun and try to do a few more in February.
